ATON FIVE Formed in 2014 in Moscow, ATON FIVE is a four-piece instrumental band with a fresh perspective on various Progressive Rock, Classic Rock, and Psychedelic Rock trends of the 70's. In 2015, the band self-released their debut EP "Long Forgotten Tales" which was followed in 2017 by live mini-album "Live At Mars" and in 2018 by their first full-length "Solarstalgia". In early 2019, ATON FIVE signed up with R.A.I.G. Records to release their recordings on real CDs for worldwide distribution. Aton Five / Childhood's End (2020) It was said that the instrumental combo ATON FIVE were entering a new decade with a new music. The band is considering taking their career to a challenging new direction, and their ÒChildhoodÕs EndÓ was conceived as kind of a wrap-up album. It features 7 re-worked and professionally produced tracks clocking it at over 65 minutes Ð early studio and live recordings from 2015-2018. The line-up features: all three keyboard players who teamed up with the band through the years Ð Maxim Neronov, Daniil Bosak, and Anton Ablov; two drummers Ð Dmitry Smirnov, and Grigory Perelman who replaced him; violinist Anna Chopik; as well as the core founding members Ð Alexander ÒRitchieÓ Seleznev on guitars and synths, and Mikhail Zenkov on bass. Records present a CD re-release (9 tracks – 76 min.) of ATON FIVE's first full-length album "Solarstalgia" supplemented with two live bonus tracks that were originally on the digital only mini-album "Live At Mars". "The thing about Aton Five is that their brand of instrumental rock has more going for it than just rehashes and recombinations of things that Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and Ozric Tentacles have done. While there are bits reminiscent of all of those, there's more going on here than just that. They bring in some proggy tendencies more akin to things that used to be common in the 70s before extended instrumental sections went out of fashion. Think of classic Uriah Heep, where the middle section of a song might involve organ and guitar trading back and forth with licks. Aton Five is kind of like a band that just does those middle sections, making them into pieces of their own... I really enjoy Daniel Bosak's keyboard work, which takes on classic organ sounds as well as synthesizers. Maybe the sounds are emulated by modern digital instruments, but he uses a lot of sounds that resemble overdriven Hammond or Minimoog, and it works well. Alexander Seleznev's guitar work is rarely of the flashy variety, but always suits the tunes well, and his riffing locks in the grooves perfectly. The thing that sets Aton Five apart from run-of-the-mill space rock bands is their willingness to change up the music - rather than repeating a riff for many minutes, they'll have a progression that works through changes and then move on to different sections. So even if you're turned off by the tendency of space rock bands to ride a riff for long stretches, you might appreciate Solarstalgia.
