MEDULLA "To create music that is both intellectually challenging and emotionally accessible, and to bring people to value popular music on an intellectual level" – this was the shared dream with which MEDULLA was founded. Consisting of members Matthew Kennon (voice, guitars, keyboards, saxophone), Kevin Mullin (guitars, bass), Brian Mullin (drums), and Fatih Ermete (bass), the group was established in Austin, Texas in 2012. MEDULLA have made it their aim to explore the line between Progressive and Alternative Rock, attempting to push that line to its absolute limit. Their debut album with R.A.I.G. Records is the first step in this direction. Written and produced entirely in Berlin, their adopted home since 2014, it is a snapshot of the group's period of growth from wide-eyed dreamers to focused and inspired musicians. Medulla / Remnant (2017) "Stray bodies get left behind..." so begins MEDULLA's debut album, "Remnant". This is a conceptual exploration of solitude consisting of five interlocked compositions. "Remnant" brings together traditional and progressive approaches to music and story-telling in an attempt to stimulate both the heart and the mind. Set within vivid soundscapes, the group's weaving melodies are brought to life by bombastic, pounding drums and orated with emotional sincerity. It's thematic content deals with, among other things, the yearning to reconnect with a world that feels ever more distant. The album is concluded by 2 bonus tracks which illustrate the group in an earlier, jazzier, experimental stage – still searching, yet inspired. In sum, "Remnant" is the result of restrained musicality. Each choice is deliberate, each sound carefully crafted, each story playing into the next. It is a promising debut effort from a group dedicated to exploring and advancing the role of progressive music in the 21st century.
